Cefalù in 3 days

To the previous itinerary you can add other destinations that allow you to appreciate even more the magic of this village.

Walking more calmly through alleys and squares you can stop in the historic local shops to taste street food, such as arancine, panelle and crocché or stop in the restaurants to try the typical dishes, such as the Pasta a taianu of Arab origin, the Cacio all'argentiera and seafood dishes made with dorado (pesce capone) and fresh catch.

Above all, you will have time to discover the fascinating district of Sant'Ambrogio and the mysterious Fortress that gave the name to the village. In fact, the name Cefalù derives from the Greek kefa or kefale, which means "head", referencing to the promontory behind the Cathedral.

The Fortress

''

The effort to climb the stairs from Piazza Garibaldi is fully rewarded by the view.

Proceeding along the staircase you see all Cefalù revealing itself little by little. During the sunset a particular light cast over it.

From the top of this spectacular fortress, you can see what the alleys hide, such as the perimeter of the fortified walls and the seabed through the clear water.

Here you can also spend the whole day because at the top there is an area equipped for picnics and relax.

Must see: the megalithic building called Temple of Diana, which dates to protohistoric era and encloses a “dolmen " cistern; then the structures of the small high-medieval town, the panoramic point with the iron Cross overhanging the Cathedral, the crenelated walls, and the ruins of the castle of Norman origin but of Federician structure on the top. Open every day from 8AM to 7PM

Cefalù Beach

Far from the summer crowds, the beaches of Cefalù are even more beautiful to discover and visit.

The calm waters and mild climate allow walking "pied dans l'eau" even in spring and late autumn.

The whole coast of Cefalù is a sequence of bays, cliffs and beaches overlooking the blue Tyrrhenian Sea.

After all, the whole history of Cefalù began from the sea and from the sea has evolved: it was the sea that brought the Greeks who founded it, and it was the sea that decide its fortune.

To plunge into its blue, you can choose the beautiful beaches of Caldura, Salinelle and Capo Playa, the quiet.

The village of Sant'Ambrogio

''

Beloved by locals, Sant'Ambrogio is a hamlet 6 kilometres from Cefalù that offers unexpected views of the village.

Due to its shape, it represents a real terrace on the Tyrrhenian Sea, right in the middle of the gulf between the rocks of Calura and the Punta di Finale.

This "village within the village" was born in the 17th century as a farmers’ hamlet: the small church, the narrow alleys with cobblestones, and the ancient trails make it a characteristic place to stroll while gazing at the sea from every angle.
